Getting a Driver's License in Pennsylvania

By Jo Jo at 06/23/07 16:03
I notice in the post by K.V. that not all the requirements were listed. You also have to get a medical examin and provide a "Medical Qualification Certificate".

For some drivers, the young ones this would seem to be pretty much unnecessary and for senior citizens a very good idea. Though it only seems required for your first license and not renewals.

So basically you need to be in good health when you are 15 to get your drivers permits but can be on your death bed and renew it when your 80! It would probably be more sensible to require a written and road test for ever renewal to ensure all drivers on the road are capable.

What would be much more sensible would be a drug and alcohol test before you get your initial license and with ever renewal. If you fail either of those you would be barred from ever obtaining a drivers license again!

Is the war against DUI real or not?

Can you see the Statue of Liberty Crying?

By Elyssia at 06/21/07 15:14
, Estados Unidos: La estatua de la libertad What does this picture mean to you? It used to make me so proud to be an American; and be in the land of the free. Well, it just so happens that there doesn't seem to be much freedom or justice in this land any more.

Come to America, the land of the free, where you have to sell your firstborn child to open a bank account, get a passport, a fishing license or just about anything these days without the government looking over your shoulder.

Look at the government institutions, schools, even shopping centers banning GOD from everywhere. Can't say God, can't pray, can't say Merry Christmas cause Christ is in there, can't discipline your children; so we have a generation or two of young people with no respect for authority or pride in earning something for themselves.

They are used to being given what they want since mom and dad both have to work extra just to pay for the gas to go to work and don't have any time to discipline their children (as if they were allowed to anyway). Schools won't do it, and they certainly won't let God into the school so they have their hands full of rebellious, foul mouthed, aggressive, gun toting teenagers in their midst.

Can you say One Nation under God?

Pennsylvania Yeti

By F K at 06/20/07 10:10
Let me tell you a tale, one that will chill you right down to the bone. In the little known land of Dempseytown, Pennslyvania (You have to take a right past Wisconsin to get there), there exists a terror that none will speak of. It is a creature so vile, so grotesque, that none who encounter it come back alive... or at least completely together. It is the Pennsylvania Yeti and you should fear its name if you know what's good for you. The story starts off when young Peter Southworth thought it was funny to impersonate the legend of the Yeti. Boy, was that a mistake for him. Peter would go out in the woods every morning and plant fake footprints in obvious places where people would find them. Peter felt so proud of himself when the townspeople brought Bigfoot/Yeti enthuasists out to examine the footprints. None could conclude if the footprints were genuine or not. That led Peter to keep up his joke.

Then on one morning when it was still dark outside, Peter left his home for the woods. As he was tramping to a new spot for his footprints, he noticed the forest was unusually quiet that morning. No birds, no bugs, no anything. Just an eerie wind blowing through the pines. Peter then felt an odd presence and could smell an odd smell. He turned around to see a tall shadow moving through the brush about 20 yards away from where he stood. He started to move away when the shadow stopped moving and seemingly looked right at him. Peter froze where he was standing.

The tall shadow lurked towards young Peter. Peter realized the shadow must have stood at least 8 feet high. He then fumbled through his backpack and pulled a flashlight from it. He shined his light towards the shadow. The shadow disappeared... but revealed the cause of the shadow. It was the Pennsylvania Yeti and he had caught Peter. The boy tried to utter a scream but nothing came out. It was too late for Peter though because the Yeti pulled a large chainsaw from behind his back and ignited the power tool. With one swift stroke it was over for Peter who had finally shrieked from the pure terror he had witnessed.

Days later a search party had found the spot where Peter had his encounter. All the party could find was Peter's backpack, a flashlight and a large chainsaw. Now what have we learned from this? The Pennsylvania Yeti does not like to be impersonated. At least ask him first if you do because he's actually quite friendly when he's not mad.

3. YOUR FIRST DRIVER'S LICENSE: if your out-of-state driver's license has been expired for more than six months or If this is your first driver's license, you will need to first apply for a Pennsylvania Learner's Permit which requires a written test to measure your knowledge of Pennsylvania driving laws, traffic signs, and safe driving practices.

Unemployment Benefits

By Jo Jo at 06/13/07 06:59
This is a simplified explanation and you should review the law and/or the State's website for the complete specifics.

If you quality for unemployment the maximum you can earn in a year is based on the number of credit weeks you have. A credit week would be one where you earned more than $50. The unemployment payment is based on your earnings.

Why is it fair to pay unemployment to crappy workers?

By Lisa at 06/05/07 21:59
I wonder at the soundness of mind that some of our lawmakers must have to create the unemployment laws. Under this law, unless I am mistaken, the burden of proof is on the company to show that the worker should not have a job there.

You know, it seems to me that there should be a classification for workers who are just plain lazy and do only what is absolutely necessary to get by. Even at that, they are only giving a half hearted attempt to earn their wages. They take the idea for granted that the company will be able to stay afloat if all of the workers have this mindset. Who will actually do the work? Surely not this breed of worker. What does the company have as a reason for letting them go? That they are lazy good for nothing employees with bad breath?

I understand that sometimes good, hard working people get laid off from businesses and should by all means get to draw unemployment. I mean, every hard-working company is contributing to this worthy cause whether they lay off employees or not, so why not have some good ones reap the benefits.

The ones that really irk me are the ones who the company just can't write up cleanly three times because the infractions are just in that gray area between willful misconduct and doing a so so job. They certainly don't pull their weight, and they are simply a burden to everyone. I think there needs to be another realm for the workers that fit in this category.

I wonder how they sleep at night figuring out how everyone owes them something for nothing.
